About Me
What can I tell you that would have you know and trust me? I can tell you what is most important to me and how I weave this identity into my counseling. I am a wife, mother, sister, friend, social worker, neighbor and nature lover. I like to make people laugh. I love to laugh. I strive to be balanced by practicing mindfulness and spending time with family and friends. I need to feel connected and useful to be fulfilled.
I am not perfect, and yet I have a bad habit of trying to be. On bad days, I am brought down by self-doubt and I struggle with anxiety around work and parenting. On good days, I feel like I am making a difference in this world and I can conquer whatever is thrown my way. Most days, I am content and grateful to be able to experience life with others.
During difficult times in my life, I have sought counseling to help me through rough and uncertain places. Counseling has helped me embrace hope, taught me new coping strategies and reminds me to be kind to myself. From my years of experience as both a client and a therapist, I have seen great things come from connecting with others through counseling. Amazing things happen when trust and vulnerability meet -- you gain the courage to change into what you want to be.

My Journey to Parenthood
My husband and I went through eight years of infertility in our quest to become parents of two children. This was by far the most difficult time of our marriage. Our dreams of becoming parents were dashed with each phase of diagnose, treatment and loss we experienced.
I found solace in counseling and a support group of other women going through similar struggles as me. My therapist helped me understand the symptoms of anxiety and depression that were affecting my health. With the connections made and hope provided, we were able to weather the journey through all its twists and turns.
I came to learn that sometimes dreams don't always come true in the way they are first imagined. When working to build a family, one must be able to grieve the loss of some parts of the dream in order to create the possibility for something new and wonderful.

My Training
I earned my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Washington, and was raised on both the west coast and in the midwest. Licensed in Nebraska as a Mental Health Professional (LMHP) and in Iowa as an Independent Social Worker (LISW), my professional experience includes working with individuals who are having troubles adjusting to life changes, dealing with past trauma and who may be anxious, depressed or grieving.
I am a member of the Association for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and am specially trained in working with individuals and couples trying to build a family through fertility treatments, third-party reproduction and adoption. In addition, I have special training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Treatment and many body-based and mindfulness approaches. |
